The state cabinet would meet here on June 6 to take a final call on several key issues, including caderization of state police’s gazetted service.
Sources told that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti would chair the meeting at 11 am.
While the agenda of the meeting is yet to be circulated, sources said the caderization of state police’s gazetted service is likely to figure in the agenda. The cabinet sub-committee which was constituted last year to hammer out a solution to the issue would meet prior to the cabinet meeting, sources said.
“The panel would meet at 10 am on that day,” an official said. The six-member panel headed by BJP minister Chandra Prakash Ganga is expected to finalize its recommendations during the meeting as ruling coalition partners in the State have almost reached a consensus over it at an informal level.
The proposal had triggered severe differences between PDP and BJP and even chief minister Mehbooba Mufti had walked out of a cabinet meeting on December 9 after facing opposition from BJP on the proposal.
The BJP had opposed reserving six posts in the hierarchy of police—two IG and four DIG posts—for KPS officers.
The inordinate delay in finalizing the proposal has “upset” police officers, many of whom have been at forefront of law and order duties since 2008.
In a related development, the J&K government on Thursday said Public Works Minister Naeem Akther would continue to be part of the CSC.
The General Administration Department (GAD) ordered that Minister for Public Works shall replace Minister for Education in the committee.
The order was issued as Akther, presently holding portfolio of Public Works, was earlier Minister for Education.
